The birth rate of each country is given by a visually scaled number indicating the average births per woman during her life span. The higher the birth rate, the higher and visually larger the number. Countries with stagnant or negative population growth (i.e. less than 2.2 births) are not noted. "2" represents between 2.2 and 2.5 births, "3" represents 2.6 to 3.5, etc.
