Special Economic Zones have been a core ingredient in China’s economic development. Other states have taken note and established a plethora of special zone in an attempt to create adapter zones to globalized capitalism which shielding their countries from the cultural disruptions resulting from rapid industrialization and open borders. Many zones, however, never made it out of the incubator stage.
經濟特區是拉動中國經濟發展的主力之一，也因此，其他國家也開始成立各種特區，試圖建立可適應全球化資本主義的區域，這樣的做法可使其國家免於受到快速工業化和開放邊界所造成的文化干擾，但是許多特區的計畫都還在育成階段就止步。
