[167] Island Nations /

Island nations are countries that are solely comprised of islands. The U.K. and all its overseas islands such as Bermuda, or Japan and its remote Ogasawara islands qualify as island nations, as do the Bahamas. Hawaii, or French Martinique, would not. Besides being desired tourist destinations islands share a disproportionally high crime and incarceration rate. Java’s 140 million constitute the largest single island population.
